Main Aims/Objectives
Analysis of researches and main methodologies of a quantitative nature applied to criminological investigation.
Specific Aims/Objectives
-To deepen the knowledge about the process of quantitative scientific research in Criminology;
- To explore the key research designs used in Criminology;
- To analyze the main scientific researches carried out in the field of Criminology, deepening the methodologies and instruments used, as well as the main results obtained and ethical considerations.
Skills to be acquired
- To assess the central concepts involved in the use of multiple research methodologies, namely, at the level of data collection, analysis, interpretation and communication;
- To understand the relationship between criminological research and policy development at the level of the criminal justice system;
- To be able to identify ethical considerations in conducting criminological researches.

3. Quantitative research: central concepts - Quantitative research cycle (problem, hypothesis, definition and operationalization of variables ...)

1. Experimental designs and their variations
2. Transverse and longitudinal designs

III. Sampling and data collection:
1. Types of sampling
2. Data collection techniques: questionnaires and interviews
IV. Data Analysis
V. Use of mixed methodologies in criminology research
VI. Ethics in the scientific research process
1. The role of the researcher
2. Subjects of the criminological research
3. Confidentiality and other central issues in criminological research.
