Main Aims/Objectives
- To know the steps of the research process;
- To understand the notions of qualitative and quantitative research in Criminology;
- To know the procedures for the construction of research instruments;
- To understand the processes of analysis and interpretation of data.
Specific Aims/Objectives
- To understand how to plan a research project;
- To know each stage of a research;
- To identify, characterize and distinguish the methods and techniques of qualitative and quantitative research;
- To acquire the conceptual basis for the design and construction of different instruments for collecting and analyzing data.
Skills to be acquired
- To know how to collect theoretical and empirical information needed to initiate a research;
- To be able to formulate a solid problematic and to identify the most effective methods for responding to it;
- To develop a critical sense in relation to the literature and the research results;
- To know strategies/models for the construction of instruments for collecting and analyzing data.
Teaching Procedures
The lectures will be mainly expository. However, the interrogative method is simultaneously used to promote students´ involvement in the discussion and reflection on the exposed contents.
Being of a theoretical-practical nature, part of the classes will be reserved for the resolution of practical exercises and guidance of written assignments for the application of the acquired knowledge.

Evaluation Type
The continuous evaluation contemplates the classification of assignments and exercises presented in the classes by the students and discussed with the Professor.
